The first day jitters come with any tour we start and usually subside by the time we establish a routine.
I spent most of my afternoon pondering the reception of our first night's performance. The worried weight favored more on the technical side of things. The Coheed Curse! (We have a history of first day technical shenanigans.) It's hard to understand the feeling of loneliness that comes with an amp error or guitar string pops. How do I remain entertaining in these moments? These problems occur fairly often with a first night, but I'm happy to say our new crew came through for us and made our transition from Vay-cay to stage play seamless. Hats off to those guys! Now it's time to dust off the old crazy legs and get them back into dancing form. Mama, break out the oil--the Tin-man needs a drink.
On the other side of things, it's a helluva show to be a part of. I know for some of you it's a bit hard to swallow, but where the hell else would we go? Coheed has always had a hard time finding a place to fit in. I've come to accept, a long time ago, that all music is art and should be embraced in all forms and facets 'cause walls are simply no fun to look at. Limiting is for order, not for perception. Which is why I want to play with everybody and why we're here.
With that said, I watched Slipknot's set yesterday and was completely blown away. The young rocker in me, who wished to see KISS in their heyday had gotten his wish. They killed, no, they butchered that mother with a spiked nail covered sledge hammer, and boy, was there blood. I'm sold. I'm into it. So come tomorrow, your fearlful leader might be toothless, wearing a broken face or dead because tonight...I enter Thunderdome.

yeah, but you guys got shit thrown at you. I enjoy Slipknot, but Im going for you guys. Ill be at the front screaming every word to your setlist.
See you in Orlando...ill make sure to beat some fools down if they even attempt to throw stuff.
Glad to hear you had fun. I'm looking forward to seeing you guys in California. I was also a bit hesitant about Slipknot, but you've now put me at ease.
We're following your tour progress on Twitter! Check it out:
www.Twitter.com/DragonflyDigest
Think of it as Cobalt on Twitter. :D
Dang. I just read the comment about stuff getting thrown at you. I'll try pick up tickets for the three shows you're doing in Cali as opposed the the just one show I was planning on attending. If any idiots try throwing crap, there will be blood.
We got your back, Claud!
I was at last night's show (St. Paul). I was a little apprehensive myself being unsure how some of the die-hard Slipknot fans would greet Coheed. It wasn't ideal, but it could have been worse.
You guys did a great job. Always love to see you guys. Come back any time.
I would sell my soul for you to end the Slipknot tour and accidentily start a headlining tour mid-march in Portland.
Just saying.
Man, I'm excited that you're doing an autographing in Orlando, and I totally love the blog, it's nice to get inside your favorite musicians thoughts on things!
See you on the 3rd dude. It's a shame that some dumb shit had to show off for his buddies and throw a bottle at you, but I'm glad you guys took this step. And if you want to talk about unleashing the young rocker, I can completely understand with this being my first time seeing you live. I am so fuckin' pumped! And I may just drop into gnosis and throw some money at you for one of those vinyls and to shake the hand of the man that helped a young man reignite his passion for songwriting.
And yeah man, we got your back...
Hope you find that immaculate pairing for touring you're looking for.
I guess SLIPKNOT at least satisfies your love for all things horrorflick-related.
...That's good.
I guess your first day on the job is like anyone else's, huh?
- As always, Cheer and good luck!
My two absolute FAVORITE bands playing in one spot and I miss the show! Tickets sold out too fast! My 15 month old actually sings along to you guys, its great. I suppose its a bad idea to take her along anyway though hehe ;) Good luck with the rest of the shows! Can't wait to hear about them
Clide! Im in a band myself and i know how you feel im nervous every show. Im seeing you guys in lowell mass. Mass has a very diverse music scene so i dont think that anything will be thrown or booed at. but as passionate as the fans, myself , and you are of the music you create im sure our energy will feed off you or viseversa so it will be a great show. No Idiot fan can stop Coheed & Cambria you guys are awesome... Come do a sighning In New england
Well, I wount be able to make it out, but I would have loved to. I have always wanted to see Slipknot live. But alas, they never really bring themselves close enough.
I just found out the set list you guys played last night and wow i can not wait to see you guys play when you're here near atlanta. You guys are actually playing at the arena in the city i live in... literally next door to where i work! So that'll be nice for me, heh.
And I'm beyond excited to see you guys play the end complete live in particular!
But dont let those few haters get you guys down because you'll have plenty of love from coheed fans all along this tour... especially those in row L to your immediate left in atlanta. :D
All I am saying is I severely wish that the Houston shows were not sold out.
Claudio,
Welcome me to the thunderdome.
Aside from the act that I am rather weak and bruise like a banana, I will not disappoint.
Wish you guys would come back to Myrtle Beach, even if it is with Slipknot. They aren't my style of music, but I'm not hateful towards you guys for touring with them.
Keep up the great work! Good luck with the tour and the next album!
I almost went down to Kentucky from Northern Ohio to see you guys but am short on money. Even though slipknot isn't my style I wish I could be there to watch you guys tear that stage up.
Have fun man, and may the force be with you ;)
I'll be seeing you guys in cali. This will be my 9th Coheed show. FUCKIN STOKED
Claudio, you are my hero. You and your band write the best music on the planet, and it's the uniqueness and care that you all put in to the creation of these perfect pieces that set you all apart and render you difficult to place, musically speaking.
Slipknot has a great live show! I'm hoping that you all touring with them will expose your greatness to a new audience, and in turn gain you some more faithful supporters.
I do have to say that I favor Coheed's live show to any band in history. The stage presence and aura that surrounds you guys is indescribable.
Fight on fire, cause you're going to burn this whole planet down.
hey, i completely agree with what you said about music and art. i really can't stand slipknot but i try to keep an open mind about all music - even if i hate slipknot, if someone came up to me and said 'check out this new slipknot song, i really like it' i would at least try to check it out. because who knows, they might actually write a good song someday and i would like to hear that one good song
that sounds harsh but it's the truth to how i approach music by bands.
second thought: i know what you mean about coheed not finding a good place to fit in - you may be a prog rock band in some areas, but in other areas you are more straight up rock or pop rock.
so here's what i'm thinking - i think that bands that you would be compatable with live are king crimson and mars volta. i think king crimson is still touring...
anyway, love your music, good luck on the new album, etc. i've met you 4 times but i would never expect you to remember me, it's all kind of a blur of faces isn't it
oh, something else i forgot to say -
before i say this i just wanted you to know that i love all of your music in general, and i only critique because i care about the future of your band and i only ever want you to improve
'the running free' and 'the road and the damned' off of your last album...i'm sorry man, but those were misfires. i know you had a collaborator with the first song and the purpose was to make a radio friendly song but it doesn't have the kind of heart and passion that i hear in every other coheed song. 'the road and the damned' sounds like the closing credits to a 1980s suburban kid movie about growing pains. a little shlocky - its not a bad song, but it doesn't hold up to everything else that you've done.
so, next album...don't collaborate with somebody who is obviously trying to help you craft a single, please. if the record label has a gun to your head about every decision you make, switch record labels if you can.
i love all of your music in the end, and always will. ive defended your band to other people so much that i feel i should be paid, haha
I was having a conversation with my friend phil and he made a point I'd never thought of. "why do they always do this to themselves." I remember you saying something about BROADENING YOUR MUSICAL HORIZONS and CHALLENGING yourself.
After ready what you've written and stating a fact I hadn't really thought of before, that you guys don't really fit in ANYWHERE made sense. After Neverender in Chicago and seeing how even the cultural difference from NY to LA to Chicago and just different parts of the COUNTRY could change it so much, I suppose that a different bands CROWD could be a disaster. If you guys are happy with the performance than that's awesome. I'm happy for you.
and who's law is that? if something can go wrong it will. **shrugs** Especially on opening night, I think could be added in there :P
I think it's only hard for us to swallow because we just want you guys to play for longer. You're far too great to be opening up for another band and not playing for 2 hours.
Also, I find that some of the fans from other bands aren't that great (i.e. stuff getting thrown at you as someone posted above...as well as when you guys toured with Linkin Park all of their fans that I encountered were horrible).
If I had my way you'd always headline, but I do think it's a great thing that Coheed broadens their horizons..I mean...Slipknot to the Allman Brothers in May? Wow!
Good luck with the rest of the tour, hopefully no broken strings or shenanigans!
motherfuckk that..let me catch some slipknot fan throwing shit at you guyesesssss I WILL BE BUSTING HEADS righ then.Thats just disrespectful.
Now that you're on tour, I won't come home to my mom telling me how she saw you at the gym in the morning. "That big haired guy in that band you liked was at the gym today! he used the same machine as me!". hahahahaha! At least I get to see you and the boys rock out at MSG! I've always wanted to see Trivium live. Thank you for going on tour with them and Slipknot. GOOD LUCK!
From what I heard, slipknot's fans didn't give you guys enough credit. It was to be expected though. Glad to see you're not letting it bring you down :) I can't wait for March! I'll be there, NOT throwing things at the stage :]
WHAT were you LISTENING to PRE-concert?
Thanks!
It takes time and maturity for some people to realize that there are too many excellent bands to be limited to one narrow genre. For me it was Metallica--NO other band could touch them!
Also, don't sweat the technical difficulties so much. Just do what Cypress Hill does--lead the crowd in a chant of "you fucked up" until you're back on track. Hilarious and it kills time!
Hey Claudio!
I just wanna say I LITERALLY can't wait to see you guys on the 17th!!! This'll be my first Coheed show and I know you guys are gonna deliver AND MORE!!! Hope you're selling some issues of the amory wars, i only have number 1 ^^
well we die hard Coheed fans will be like the prise and beat the crap outta anyone throwin bottles like we were defending the fence^^
Completely agree to that lonely feeling you get when you break a string on stage. Just be glad that you aren't a 17 year old bass player who just had his E string snap at the bridge and smack you in the face during your first song of the night. *reminisces*
I'll be waiting next time you come around as a headliner, Mr. Sanchez!
I'm seeing you guys on the 10th and I'm SUPER excited!!! I love your setlist from the 23rd and hope you play it exactly I wish you had alot more time to play but any amount of time is worth any amount of money! I'm glad your having a good time Claudio and thanks for doing what you do I just finished Amory Wars Vol 1:SSTB and LOVED IT! I almost died of laughter when Claudio said "As long as the walls don't start moving" Your ideas are so awesome and creative. Thanks again!
Best of luck to you guys! Hope I can come see you for Mountain Jam.
Claudio! you are amazing! i dont see why so many slipknot fans are getting pissed about this, but thats all they really ever do isnt it?, i have listened to slipknot since the begining and listened to you guys since shabutie and love you both, i really think there should be more optimisim out there I have found myself argueing countless times with slipknot fans about how awesome you are, not everyone can write awesome comicbooks amazing music actually sing it well and play guitar, you are my hero and if i have to i will spend my whole life defending you, too bad i cant go to the show though :(
Eh, things happen. What comes to mind is your show in San Francisco at the Warfield - with Fall of Troy and uhh, those other guys who played for far too long. I'm not 100% how it happened, but your latest fancy guitar unplugged mid-solo. It was a bummer, but I think we can all wait the few seconds while one of the crew guys runs out on all fours to plug it back in. No worries. Nobody knew what happened until it was fixed haha and still a fantastic show.
Looking forward to your post-Neverender show tonight in Council Bluffs. You rock the house, and I'll take care of any unruly fans. ;)
Looking forward to the show in Charlotte on the 10th. Our crew will be there, not throwing things and screaming every word. I'm pumped for Al the Killer, so don't let us down :P
Though I like Slipknot, I'm kind of scared of their hardcore fans, so I'm sure it takes some cojones to get up there. Keep doing what you do guys.
I was wonder the same as Lance... What do you listen to on your IPOD to get you pumped?
So sad I can't go to this show. I live in Lowell, MA and was so excited that you are coming here instead of Manchestah, Worcestah or Boston, but alas, I have class... booo.
I’m glad you weren’t affected by those Slipknot fans- if they throw stuff at you it means they’re childish and not worth it. They’re a disgrace to all bands.
I hope I’ll get to see you sometime! Come to Brussels or Madrid!
Coheed fan to the death
I've put a lot of thought into driving three hours to Orlando to see Coheed and then turn around and come home. I've done it before. after reading these comments i feel more justified thinking I would not feel safe among slipknot fans. Maybe it's just me, but I always felt a kinship among Coheed fans. I always felt okay to be a female surrounded by sweaty hulking dudes. They always seemed to keep me safe, picking me up when I toppled over, shoving other strangers off me (thanks, I always appreciate it!) I just can't fathom this from slipknot fans. I won't be there, but I hope to see you in Florida again soon. And i hope more than anything for you to keep posting on this blog.
I hadnt thought about any of this until recently when Ive been reading others comments on the fan's behavior. Its an ignorant gesture on their part. Hopefully you know the die hard fans will go down swinging for The Heed at your shows. Im looking forward to the show and meeting you at Gnosis for the first time Claudio. ( P.S. I have all your comics and love them all, so change your description to someone instead of no one :] )
I saw you in Nashville last year with Linkin Park (sigh). You guys kicked ass, but the fact that only a third of the crowd was standing/singing along was a bit of a downer.
Hey Claudio,
This blog is great. I think its one of your best kept secrets, but not for long I think.
Anyway, I think Coheed And Cambria as a whole should come over to Australia and do a concert/ tour. We're feeling a bit forgotten down south. If you do decide to come down, bring some of The Amory Wars down with you.
Have a think about it and have a good.
Happy Australia Day!
Glad to hear the beginning of the tour is going well. I'm looking forward to seeing you and the rest of the band on Friday, in Lowell Mass.
Can't wait, see you then :)
You guys did great in Minnepolis! I feel really bad about the slipknot fans throwing shit at you guys.personally i only went to the show beacuse you guys were playing! I like when you guys headline then we get to hear more songs. I've seen coheed 4 times now and My favorite show was last year at first ave. It was amazing to meet you at ROBOTlove before the show! :D
Hmm I always expect that from Slipknot fans. But I'm glad these bollocks didn't bring you down. And you surely know what to expect from us Coheed fans, don't cha!?? So rest assured, we've got your back Mr. Sanchez
I made this really profound statement the other night about music with absent parameters and...limitless boundaries and...."fuck genres"...and ...unfortunately I was drunk and don't remember exactly what I said but you summed quite a bit of it up then. But still...there was more to it. Damn.
But I still hate Slipknot. But hope you have a good tour anyway!
Good luck on the tour!
Well personaly I dont like Slipknot.. but on the other side I cant even come see the show since you are not coming to germany : ( But for seeing Coheed I would listen to anything!!
I wish you tons of fun and hope that the Slipknot fans are fair and let your fans enjoy the show as much as they will let them enjoy Slipknot!
Hope to see u on tour in Germany sometime soon again!!
Claudio, why didn't The Crowing make it into Sunday's show? You guys sounded awesome and rocked hard. I didn't think you were out of place with Slipknot at all.
"all music is art and should be embraced in all forms and facets 'cause walls are simply no fun to look at. Limiting is for order, not for perception. Which is why I want to play with everybody and why we're here."
Wow...this right here may just change my mind and buy tickets...
Saw you guys in St. Paul. I saw Slipknot in Chicago last year, so I was much more excited to see you. I think the tour with Slipknot is great, maybe a little inspiration for the new album?
You see my father likes Slipknot a lot, so it worked out great. I came to see you, he came for them.
In my eyes you stole the show. I was like "I just want to see Claudio. I just want to see that he's real!"
Childish I know. Oh well.
What sucked is that I was around all Slipknot fans, who did comment (not nicely) on their dislike of Coheed. For your first couple songs I was more kept to myself. But when you played The End Complete, I stood up and cheered my ass off for the rest of the show. In my whole section, me and maybe 3 other kids were standing up singing along. Great
Oh and nice setlist, play some of your heavier songs? I would be satisfied with anything you played, but it was just great.
Come again!!!
You guys have a lot to say. Claudio could write a book entitled: Comments Left For One Blog Post.
When my older brother saw Slipknot, he saw some guy get his knee completely broken all to hell. Scared the crap out of him.
I'm trying to convince my boything to take me to the show in Orlando, but he's resisting (because we're broke, nothing against Coheed).
Sorry I'll be missing out on your show in Detroit... I would go soley to watch Coheed and leave =( I have no one to go with... SUPER BUMMED!!!! You guys rock!!! Good luck wiht the rest of the tour!! ;D
Claudio will you marry me?
That's interesting that you see music that way. I've always tried to see it that way too... though when I first saw that you were touring with Slipknot and Trivium I kept wondering why you guys got yourselves paired up with those kinds of bands. It's true that there aren't a whole lot of other bands that Coheed mixes well with (On Pandora.com, you guys are mixed in with the likes of Hawthorne Heights...)
I suppose it doesn't matter as long as you deliver as good a show as you always do. I'll be seeing you guys for the first time on Feb 9, and it sure as hell won't be the last.
Claudio -- Every piece of equipment could blow up on that stage, and every string could pop on your guitar, and I'd freaking cheer, and somehow you would still play a string-less guitar. Honestly, if your whole stage full of shit went out completly, we would all sing together to finish the song. Your fans love you guys!!! I love the person who doesnt give themselves enough credit. My fair Claudio -- You are the MAN, and the band is THE BAND....
Don't worry, Ambellina will watch over you. :P
Wish you were coming to Miami! Orlando is a bit too far for a weekday =(
Have a great tour. Can't wait for more from you guys.
I'm also really excited about Bonnaroo!
yo guys i saw you at the tsnongas arena in lowell mass.. you guys put on a hell of a show i mean your overall mix was fantastic and every song sounded like the album version. dam you guys never seize to amaze! my friend met travis that lucky bastard.. claudio i beat the krap out of the guy who threw the water bottle at you! i gotch ya back son
Heyyy! i saw you guys in Lowell 2/6/09 and you guys played and sounded MUCH better then Slipknot. This is the fifth time i have seen you guys and you blew my fucking mind. There was this kid who kept screaming fuck you and giving the middle finger at you guys and i keep throwing that fucker in the pit and slamming into him. I loved your show and cant wait to see you again. I sang every word to your set. I also saw your guys tour bus and beeped, i saw travis in the door of the bus. YOU GUYS FUCKING ROCK.
I was at the Madison Square Garden show, and you guys were really great, I almost got in a fight with these really obnoxious slipknot fans who were trying to boo you guys. You were freaking amazing during the solos.
Hey, Claudio, I want to apologize for the shitty crowd in Lexington on the 14th. I ranted in my blog (http://www.raginggoat.blogspot.com) I was not happy at all with the way you guys got treated there.
Amazing show BTW!
Hey, if you should still get these first day jitters when you're down in Puerto Rico (June 12th, can't hardly wait!!!!!)give us a ring and we'll give you our old fashioned home remedy: PITORRO (google it)
